When commercial developers and architects want to see what their new building will look like once it’s built, it would be nice to photograph it from all angles or allow them to tour the place day or night. Problem is, the property doesn’t exist. It hasn’t been built yet. 3D Artist Sebastian Smolak gets around this problem by creating photorealistic 3D architectural visualizations and animated clips that show in extraordinary detail what a building will look like when it’s finished.

The 2013 Holiday Challenge is underway! In the spirit of the season, we're looking for one outstanding image or animation created with LightWave that best represents the holiday season... with one special twist: The "Join the Rebellion" logo must be incorporated into the design. The contest is being held on the LightWave Facebook page, where participants will be able to upload their WIPs and final renders for consideraion. The winner of the challenge will receive a suite of products from the LightWave 3D Group that includes LightWave 11.6, NevronMotion and ChronoSculpt software. The challenge ends December 31, 2013 at 11:59 pm CST.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on November 7, 2013 that it has selected 10 animated short films to advance to the voting process for the 86th Academy Awards. Originally, 56 pictures had qualified for the category. Shuhei Morita and Sunrise's "Possessions" ("Tsukumo") short, created with LightWave, is among the 10 to advance. The list will be narrowed down to three to five films for the final nominees, which will be announced on January 16, 2014.
