Interview with Ed Gabel
'TIME' called us on Tuesday morning with this assignment. Their deadline is Wednesday early afternoon. So, we had just over 24 hours to produce the final art, from start to finish. I cannot imagine creating an image like this under such a tight deadline without the power and speed of LightWave. The model preparation and construction took most of Tuesday, and by that evening we were sending TIME’s art director about a dozen low-res renders. Different camera angles, different light set-ups, different surfacing and texturing. By Wednesday morning, 'TIME' had made their choice as to what they liked best, and LightWave rendered the final hi-res image amazingly fast. And typical to LightWave, the render was so beautiful there was almost no post-production or retouching!
